JULY SUNDAY SCHOOL THEME

July 26th:   Change

· Change happens. People go through many changes throughout their lives. This topic will help students look at the change in their lives and see it as part of God’s plan for spiritual growth and development.

Sunday School

Sunday School is for children of all ages.  All children are welcome to attend, even if you've never been before!  We start with SS openings in the Sanctuary where we sing, celebrate birthdays, and hear about he day's lesson!  Then, we head to class with our amazing teachers.

Please consider brining your family to SS!  Birth - 2 yrs  Beall - 3yrs - K Tammy - 1st - 2nd Beth - 3rd - 6th Deborah -

Pentecost

On May 31, Christians around the world will celebrate the Day of Pentecost. It’s often remembered as the church’s birthday. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he promised that the Holy Spirit would come upon those who believed in his resurrection. Three thousand people were gathered in Jerusalem when the Spirit came upon them. They were so touched by the Holy Spirit that they began to worship regularly, especially on Sundays, the day of Christ’s resurrection.

To symbolize the “tongues, as of fire” (Acts 2:3, NRSV) that came upon the people present at Pentecost, liturgical churches display the color red in their worship services on Pentecost Sunday. Many people attending worship wear red on that day

Prayer Partner Program

Members of the congregation sign up to "adopt" a class and teacher to pray for and send small gifts/cards to during the year.

Christian Symbols

The shepherd’s crook is a symbol for Jesus, the Good Shepherd. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11). The crook also symbolizes the shepherds who visited the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. It’s also used in connection with King David, who had been a shepherd when he was young.

What is a Christian family?

A CHRISTIAN FAMILY is one in which parents so live the Christian life, and practice the presence of God that children come to accept God as the greatest reality of life.

A CHRISTIAN FAMILY is one in which each member is accepted and respected as a person having sacred worth.

A CHRISTIAN FAMILY is one that accepts the responsibility of worship and instruction to the end of developing the spiritual life of each person.

A CHRISTIAN FAMILY is one that manifests a faith in God, observes daily prayer and grace at meals.

A CHRISTIAN FAMILY is one that is committed to behavior in keeping with Christian ideals for family relations, community life, and national and world citizenship.

Hooray for fathers

A Houston newspaper asked readers to send in thoughts about their fathers. Letters flooded in, and what people wrote about their fathers is most inspiring.

A few comments:

• Dad was always there for me. He sacrificed to make sure that we had what we needed.

• When disappointment came my way, Dad said, “Son, real life ain’t about getting what you want but more about doing something with what you get.”

• My dad was disabled, but he worked hard to make sure we children had a good education and lived moral lives. He would say, “I want you to succeed more than I did.”

• My dad wanted us to be Christians and took us regularly to church.
What would you write about your father?

Agnus Dei

Agnus Dei is a Latin term meaning Lamb of God. It represents the risen Christ who triumphs over death. In John 1:29, John the Baptist called Jesus "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." The lamb carries a white resurrection banner with a cross of red.

The banner, representing the body of Christ, is attached to a cruciform staff, representing the cross on which Christ died.
